And still it’s coming down. Fifteen inches down on the drive. More than a foot on top of the big bird feeder, 8 inches on the stone bench. That was 2 hours ago, and I can see 2 more inches on the bench. Plus that fact that all the bird feed is buried again.
I can tell when the snow is letting up for a while – all the birds reappear and begin to dig out the seeds and peanuts that have been covered up. Usually, I just sprinkle the feed on the patio – now I’m putting it on cookie sheets on top of the snow. And still it gets buried.
The cardinals are out in greater numbers than I’ve ever seen – there are 21 right now in the trees surrounding the patio. And everybody is visiting the suet feeder today. The only folk missing are the deer – though I’ve kept their feeder full. It may be as hard for them to walk as it was for me a while ago.
Just heard a bluejay scream for his peanuts. Noticing several birds I haven’t seen before – must be migrating through. And the snow continues, though it is forecast to stop soon. It’s fun to be inside looking out.
