Garden Update

July 6, 2008 By pgarry

Lots going on in the garden as we get deeper into July. I am sending everyone who comes over home with lettuce, Swiss chard, peppermint. I love an abundant garden, and I can’t eat it all fast enough!

Right now I’m watching a doe checking out what’s available. I’m keeping the impatiens sprayed with Liquid Fence, so she’s just eating weeds – all to the good.

Bought a new nut feeder, which everyone is loving – especially the blue jays, but also woodpeckers, flickers, cardinals, nuthatches and even a chickadee or two. The squirrels try to climb the pole but usually slide back down. I’ve bought a baffle (shield) to baffle them – haven’t put it up yet.

The finch feeder is covered with the smaller birds, especially the gold finches. And the hummers are triply happy, since there are 3 feeders this year.

Peaceful, beautiful, bountiful, joyful – I often just sit and watch, not even thinking, just feeling the goodness of the earth and us, her creatures.
