Review: Women’s Tennis Tournament

August 17, 2008 By pgarry

I spent the entire week at the Masters Series Men’s Tournament. At the Women’s Tournament, ending today, I spent Friday, the quarterfinals. And what a difference!

No crowds anywhere. No lines in the bathroom, no waiting for food, not many shopping opportunities. We still made a lot of noise during exciting moments in the matches, though. Sounded like a much larger crowd!

We watched Nadia Petrova and Maria Kirlenko each twice – we watched them win their individual matches, and then pair up and win their doubles semifinal. They set up a Russian singles semi which involved them playing each other. The other semi was all French – Nathalie Dechy and Amelie Mauresmo. Then on Saturday, Petrova and Dechy won their semis.

And today, theRussians raked it all in. Nadia beat Dechy, and then Nadia and Maria beat a Chinese doubles team. Another beautiful day for tennis in Cincinnati.
