Restaurant Review: Europa

August 9, 2011 By pgarry

Last time I took a look at Europa – or at least the space that it is in – it was an intriguing little coffee shop in Covington’s Mainstrasse. Lots of different kinds of teas and coffees, interesting choices in buns and coffee cake. And that’s about it. And it doesn’t seem like that long ago, but it must be more than 5 years.

Now – the food is 4-star restaurant food, though the ambiance is much more pleasant and less self-conscious than that. Everything is handmade from scratch – the gnocchi, ravioli. The bread served with dinner. That is some great bread! The watermelon salad. The homemade creative gelato – I had a scoop of the pumpkin, the lavender and the cream. Just for testing purposes, you understand! : >

Creative and interesting meat served in creative and interesting ways. Since my friend Teresa is nearly family, the chef brought a piece out to show us. I just covered my face with the menu. But it does speak to creativity and training and pride.

What a wonderful – and very reasonably priced – meal. And to get there, I had to walk past 2 other restaurants almost in the same category (Hugo’s and Bouquet), and 2 others which are very good (Dee Felice and Chez Nora). What a street! Might be the best in the region for eating.
