Having Several Good Choices

March 5, 2012 By pgarry

We’re a culture that tends to make everything an either / or choice – yes, no – on, off.

But most of the time, we actually have several good choices, with varying gradations and trade offs.? And I’m wondering why we don’t negotiate more often – with ourselves as we work on and consider the decision, and with others who have some influence over it.

We also often have a tendency to fuss over smaller decisions – which play to see, which restaurant or park to visit.? I often point out to myself that it’s just one meal – not an irrevocable decision with no turning back.? We can always visit the other restaurant next week.? And if the meal’s not perfect – we tried it, we learned something about the place, we got to have a new experience.? It’s all good.

Some decisions have more impact – where to go to college, whether or not to get married.? They can often be broken down into smaller pieces, and are better left to run around in our minds, hearts and bellies for a while.? Most of the time they will resolve themselves if we just back off and enjoy where we are at the moment

There are lots of spiritual techniques and strategies for figuring out what our intuition is probably working very hard to tell us about each decision.? One key is to pay attention to how our body is reacting to the situation(s) – tight or relaxed?? happy or heachachy?

But mainly – let’s just let go, realize how blessed we are to have such a good life and so many interesting possibilities, and allow all those choices to ripen to their own resolutions.? Taking the pressure off is always an excellent idea!
