I was in a toy store in Cleveland last week, in a toy store called Big Fun.? It was one of the stops on a bus tour of neighborhood business districts.? When I walked in, I asked, without seeing any, whether they had any jigsaw puzzles – one of my favorite things to play with.
They pointed vaguely to a small pile of puzzles, already used ones.? And at the bottom of the pile there was an old puzzle, probably, from the style, from the 40s or 50s, when I was growing up.? And the box has never been opened!? Hurray!
It’s an autumn picture called Our Land, with ‘jaggady-jag cuts’, whatever that means.? I’ll find that out when I do the puzzle next fall – I always like to have seasonal puzzles on the table, and my current one is of a little girl all dressed up as a Halloween witch, waiting for it to get dark.?? So come next September, I’ll be doing the one I just bought.
