How about boring and tedious as the tagline for Congressional behavior around their own self-created financial crisis?
It was pretty predictable all along that this would happen. That sniping would occur over the intervening year, with the Republicans assuming their anticipated ‘big win’ in the election would give them the power to – as many of them have said a number of times – ‘shrink government until it is small enough to drown in the bathtub’. That line is a tea party favorite.
It took nearly two months for even a few Republicans to figure out that they lost the election, that the few folk in the red states who support them can’t really help them recover, and that it might not be a good idea to keep looking like bad guys to the rest of the country.
All that behavior gave the Dems more power. And when Boehner turned down the President’s many offers, he gave the Dems even more power. Mitch McConnell turns out to be smart enough to have figured some of this out, so the Senate will act probably tonight. Now when it finally passes the House, probably tomorrow, it will be Dems that pass it, the tea party having rendered itself irrelevant.
Thereby making the future look even brighter.
