Last night’s heavy snowfall – pristine and brilliant – has turned the back yard into perfect winter pictures.
A gathering of perhaps 20 cardinals, on the safflower feeder, the bench and under the patio table. The snow was so deep that squirrels could not scamper – they would leap, disappear into the snow, leap from that trench and make a new on. It took a lot longer to go from point A to point B than it would on a less snowy morning.
Even with all the food, there were several times when no birds were out and about – which says to me Hawk must be around. But I have not seen one, though I have looked everywhere around the house and yards. I’ve heard songbirds singing their spring songs – no sign of nest building yet, but it’s nearly time.
I am ready to get some great pictures, but it’s been too cold to be too patient out there. I’ll post a few when I finally get them.
